CD - A veteran American folk-pop singer-songwriter, this is Janis Ian's first album in over 25 years. 'Folk Is The New Black' comprises fifteen new tracks from the dry humour of My Autobiography to the jazz feel of The Crocodile Song.

With 2006 marking the fortieth anniversary of the release of Janis' breakthrough hit, Society's Child, back in 1966, you may be forgiven for assuming that this is likely to be a somewhat old-fashioned affair. However this contemplative collection of songs suggests that Janis has moved into middle age with grace and humour.

Rather than sounding part of a past era, this album sounds closer to some of her younger contemporaries like Mary Chapin Carpenter.
