Setting the stage for gay filmmaking, Jarman's own homosexuality is central to his work with full-frontal naked men appearing in most of his work whether superfluous to the main action or not. Whilst this focus on the male form probably prevented his films from reaching a wider audience he has definitely earned his place in cinematic history.
