Of Italian descent, David Vance has been surrounded with the atmosphere of this heritage since childhood. The art, the sculpture, the music, the literature and cuisine of his world exposed him at an early age to the classic way of observing life. He sees beauty through the eyes of his ancestors. Although his models are modern young sports-playing men, their bodies speak of ancient traditions beyond time. This is the same beauty that inspired the very early Greek Kouros statues, the bronzes of Pagan temples, the statues that decorated the forums, arenas and hippodromes of the early world of two thousand years ago and more.

This same beauty returned in the Renaissance after these early statues were excavated, inspiring Michelangelo, Donatello and many others. And these in turn inspired the canvases of David, Gericault, Bougereau and many other painters in the 19th century.
