FROM THE SUBLIME TO THE RIDICULOUS, OVER 100 GAYS REFLECT THE SUBJECT OF MARRIAGE
Bringing together a hugely diverse array of queer voices on the subject of marriage, I DO / I DON'T is a truly wide-ranging study on what queers really think of this age-old institution and how they believe it affects them.
In 2001, the Netherlands was the the first country to legalize same-sex marriage, Belgium soon followed the Dutch lead and in 2003 several Canadian provinces were added to this list. In 2004 several US states began marrying same-sex couples until a legal injunction stopped the spread, George Bush now stated that he will back a constitutional amendment to ban these marriages permanently.
Everyone has an opinion on this subject, most of which never get heard. I DO / I DON'T aims to rectify this by giving a platform from which gays, and their opinions, can be heard. Material used comes from such disparate sources as poetry, fiction, personal essays, non-fiction stories, interviews, photographs, sketches and letters. There are over 100 contibutors, including Patrick Califia, Margaret Cho, Greg Herren, Leslea Newman and Judy Wieder
